3 WEEKS: UPSET STOMACH

IMG_0798Monday August 7, 2017 5:47 a.m

Someone had an upset stomach on the weekend.

Not me, my dog Harley🐶

As usual, our long bike ride was Saturday. LAZ and I were going to go 160 km. For me, that would be about 6.5 hours of riding followed by a 10 minute run.

On Friday night around Midnight Harley wasn’t feeling well. He was up most of the night, and if Harley is up I am up. We were outside a few times. Needless to say I knew that getting up to ride at 7:30 a.m was going to be a problem. I texted the guys around 2:30 a.m and said there was no way I was going to make the ride. I would do it on Sunday…by myself😡

That will not be fun. 👎

I was very lucky. A storm rolled in on Saturday. From all accounts LAZ only had to deal with some rain for a bit of the ride, dodged the rest but the weather was not great. Sunday was different. Blue skies, very little wind, a perfect day to be outside on the bike. I was not looking forward to being out there on my own but the way I had to look at it was this would be my last long ride before the race so I needed it done and I wouldn’t have to do another until August 27.

161 km in 6 hours and 38 minutes.

The first 5 hours went by fast but the last hour and 38 minutes seemed long. You know you are close and just want to finish but you are pedalling as fast as you can, you can’t seem to pedal any faster. The clock seems to move slower😆

Plus, by this point I am sore from sitting on that damn bike seat for that long.

I did it, got back to my vehicle and got my run in. I really had a fast pace on the run. Only 10 minutes but I felt really strong and the legs came back quickly. That would indicate that I took in enough food and water during the bike. Felt very good about my run.

That was my third 6 plus hour ride. Good enough! No more long rides. Next week will be about 2 hours, maybe 2.5 hours.

I only have one more 25 km run to do (Friday) and one more long swim (Sunday) then it is taper for the race. The training has gone by so fast and yet I am officially tired of training like this. I can’t wait for the race to be over so I can get my free time back. Especially the weekday evenings. Getting home from work only to head out on the bike or a run, I can’t wait to come home and just be able to chill if I want. Also, using up a whole Saturday for a bike ride is something I won’t miss😁

Soon it will all be over.

Enjoy the day.
